Jeff flirts with Elizabeth Bennett

Elizabeth is trying to have some quiet time under the tree.
"She doesn't want to look at me. She's busy thinking about something. Maybe she can talk to me later--- when she's not busy."
-Jeff

Merry Christmas from St Lucia

Since Bobbie is 3/16ths Swedish, she wanted to work on this 1931 photo of Stockholm's Lucia queen. St. Lucia was an Italian saint but in Sweden they like to honor her as well.

shopping trip

A famous family tries to shop incognito, but John recognizes them right away. Is there anything else you would like to say about this picture, John?
"I hope my family likes it."

This morning we worked on this snapshot from last night- He's still full from the fantastic Chicken dinner, John says dancing is a good way to burn dinner off.

Bobbie's Tree

B: I think this would be a good Christmas card design. I'm trying to think of a greeting to go inside the card. I'm open for suggestions. It's like a psychodelic blue spruce.
J: I love how bright everything is. You learned alot while making this right?
B: Yes- how to change colors and sizes.
J: You made this pretty fast!
B: Yeah, like a neon tornado!
J: I would buy this card.
John likes it too. "Peace baby!"

Jeff in the Purple Fog

Jeff is almost finished with this piece inspired by Purple Rain. He's really good at singing along to the soundtrack while he's working on the computer.
Jeff: I like the high notes.

Jeff's fully immersed in the 80's today; he's placed Cindy Lauper in the window.

Jeff: She sings prettier, like she's got a pretty voice.

A Musical Thanksgiving

Luke is thinking about his family this holiday season. Here is little Luke held by his mother Lola.
His father is next to him.
My Uncle Isaac and Aunt Gertrude are in the picture too. I miss them. My mom and dad are up in heaven with Jesus and Beethoven, Bach, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Schumann, Liszt, Chopin, Wagner, Vivaldi, Grieg, Hayden, Schubert, Sussa, Mozart, Foster, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Handel, Paganini...
That sounds like a sandwich.
HAHAHAHAHA.
(A discussion of paninis and other assorted sandwiches leads back to the topic of cheese...)
Anything else you'd like to say about this picture?
It makes me think about heaven.

Things to be Thankful for....

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks. Things I am thankful for- A new home, my family, a New Job- parking meter springs watch out- here I come. I am Woman hear me roar - I love Helen Reddy's song.

Mostly I am Thankful I have food on the table, and I have forgotten the bad stuff thats happened in my life and moved on.

A 1975 trip in the Family Air stream Trailer

Our family had a Air stream trailer it kinda looked like this one (a little longer- I ran out of room to draw) - we used to travel everywhere we went to Georgia, Louisiana, San Antonio, Texas, San Francisco, and New Mexico. We even spent Christmas in Florida. - The trip in 1975 was stressful, we moved from Tuscan to West Virginia and I left my school and friends. My father lost his temper in the car on this trip, but we won't go into that.

Please remember when you travel---- Watch out for Tornado Alley! Stop and get in a Shelter!-----

John's Passport

Apparently, John has more travel plans- Maybe he's going to visit Rob and Laura.

Luke and Joanie Love Cheese

Here's a cheesy image for you- a perfect valentine.
Luke would love to continue to add names of cheeses to this, but it's time to move on.

In Memory of Candy

We're all sad that Halloween is over and the candy is finally disappearing.
Luke: We can make Christmas candy. How about chocolate Santa Clauses?
Jen: No cheese?
Luke: Cheese too- like Christmas cheese.
Jen: Bobbie really likes this image that Luke made.
Bobbie: It reminds me of Christmas.
Jen: Do they look like wrapped presents?
Bobbie: Yes, but also my mother used to make hard candy.

Meeboma

John just whipped up this portrait of Michelle ("Meeboma").
Jen: She looks beautiful and happy.
John: Her is happy. I think she's happy; I'm not sure.

What's so funny?

This turtle has just heard a really funny joke, but no one can tell us what it was- not even Amanda.

Witch's Familiar

Bobbie has been working on this piece all morning.
Jennifer: Are you finished?
Bobbie: Not yet- I still have to work on the rabbit.
J: Are you going to add more color?
B: mmm hmmm.
J: The witch has very intense eyes!
B: Haunting.
(Bobbie is also wondering if rabbits make noise.)
J: Good question. I had a rabbit and he didn't make too much noise, just pooped alot. I'm sure the witch's rabbit is much more interesting.

Bobbie would like to go to the library to find out more about witch's familiars. She is also interested in finding out more about angels.

Spoiler alert!

Here's a climactic scene from 'Heaven's Laundromat'. The robot hero has defeated the villains by crushing them into a cube with his bare robot hands. The cube shape is inspired by the borg from Star Trek.
Harold: Captain Picard is the best captain.
Jennifer: You might run into some arguments about that... Do you think he could win against the giant robot?
H: No, the robot has laser beam hands.

It may look like a walnut-- but it's a Heart

John King has a new interest "A nice show, hope it comes back" he states This cute TV couple has left us with this fun image to manipulate. John hopes the Dick Van Dyke Show might return to network television someday

Walk the Dogs

Lori's image of the Chicago based Girl Punk Band Going to the Dogs shows them out walking dogs to make money for some instruments. The barking thing has gotten old, states Marcy we were inspired by those dogs barking Christmas carols CDs, after our show at the Cobra -now we need to learn how to play guitar and keyboards. Patti and Marcy practice what they preach by letting the dogs out. The pair are Vegan, devoted animal rights activists, who sing about keeping the fur on animals not humans.

Great Space Ghosts

Lori's response to the Star Trek dialogue that has been circulating in Media Lab this morning is to draw the disembodied ears of Mr. Spock. These might be floating outside the Enterprise with that weird puffy, pasty colored Alien head. -You know the one with the throbbing vein in it's head---eeeehhew.

Danny Loves Star Trek

Danny is a man of few words, this morning I discovered that he loves Star Trek.
He said that he likes Star Trek the Next Generation the best, but his favorite trait is the long Vulcan ears.
Score one point for old school Spock fans.

This one, this one.

Yeah, that's better!

Little Miss Muffet

Lori said that Lizzy is singing then along came a spider....
I think Lori was channeling a female version of the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy. Ahh the sweet sounds of the seventies, curds and whey, and of course throw in a spider for flavor
- dust off those musical cobwebs.

Hazy Shade of Winter

John has revised his image of the first family in the first snow fall while listening to sounds of Simon and Garfunkel. Now he's singing - "a nation turns its lonely eyes to you."

Good Charlotte's web

Lori loves the story Charlotte's Web, she has fond memories of reading the story as a child.
Lori's revised version of the children's story follows a group of young sports obsessed spiders, who as they grow up they turn into soccer balls. Who then bounce around here, there, and everywhere spinning webs and freaking people out.

michael and friend

Karen: It looks like a wedding.
Jennifer: What do you think, John?
John: I think so...
Bobbie: It's pretty dramatic.
Jennifer: John makes some pretty compelling images on the computer.
Bobbie: He does.

That ghost again

John feels the female ghost might have looked like this (circa 1951) and enjoyed spending time at the beach. Thats it.

Ghost image

The season of paranormal is in bloom at Little City. John was able to capture an image of the apparition of the ghostly girl. He states "She comes to me around this time of year. Last year I saw her at our Halloween party in the gym, she wanted to get outside of the gym and went right through the wall."

Hallowee!!!!

Bobbie worked on this Halloween stew today the recipe calls for Skulls, ghosts, a south of the border spider, pumpkins, Tombstones, leaves, and a large bat for flavor.

Happy Halloween!!!

This is a card I made for my friend Adrienne; I'd like other people to enjoy this as well, so I'm putting it here. I like putting alot of words on the cards I make.
-Karen

tangled lines and letters

Bobbie finished this abstract piece today- We thought that some of her green lines reminded us of Arabic letters, so then she pasted in some Chinese characters as well. Bobbie was thinking about her old house and sharing some memories with Jennifer while she was making this.

Friday, October 2, 2009

Bobbie is thinking abut Halloween, she likes it. The spookier the better! She is trying to decide if she should get dressed up in costume up to go to Countryside. Bobbie goes to Countryside on Tuesday and Thursday where she works on Sloan valves. She is new to the Media lab and stretching out and feeling her way around the different programs we use here.
